Described as the most Instagrammable café in London, Feya is the brainchild of Cordon Bleu chef Zahra Khan. The delicate space reflects the light touch she has with her patisseries and provides and excellent backdrop for her beautifully presented food. Excellent, fresh ingredients are the mainstay of Zahra’s menu, and you’ll find classic dishes served with an unusual twist. Finnish food expert Virpi Mikkonen, has curated the breakfast menu, showcasing vegan and wholefood dishes. Zahra has created something truly special in Freya, and Fernwood Interiors are proud to have provided the setting for this jewel.

Zahra had a clear idea of the atmosphere she was trying to create and has strong personal values which are reflected throughout her work. Close to Oxford Street, in the heart of London, at 23 James Street Feya can expect a sophisticated clientele. Zahra was determined to create a space that would welcome and refresh locals and visitors alike throughout the day and into the evening. As fresh food, well prepared is a key element of her ethos, the backstage areas of the venue needed to be highly efficient and make the most of limited space.

Typically for a newly launched eatery, Feya was subject to close scrutiny from both government inspectors and the press. As a result, it was essential that the fit-out met or exceeded health and safety standards in every respect, both in the dining space and the behind-the-scenes and kitchen areas. The venue has both indoor and outdoor seating, and would be serving both eat-in and takeaway meals and drinks, so it was important to maximise the seating space without making the café feel crowded or interfering with traffic flow for takeaway customers. With customers expecting a rapid turnaround, complete ordering system integration was key.

The Fernwood Interiors team worked closely with Zahra to realise her vision for Feya. The café was the realisation of a long-held dream, and Zahra had a clear idea of the atmosphere she was trying to create. Developing that concept into a reality was an exciting project which involved sourcing many unusual items as well as creating bespoke pieces. We are proud to have completed both the front-of-house and backstage elements of the fit-out within a four week programme.

The stunning cherry blossom tree installation on the ceiling and the delicate pink walls gives the whole venue a relaxed, romantic atmosphere. Marble surfaces, luxurious pink fabrics and stone floors enhance the effect. Once you sit down carefully chosen brass and ceramic accessories provide a simple get elegant backdrop for the gorgeous food, the final element which draws the whole look together. This artisan eatery is a truly unique space and fully reflects Zahra’s vision for her venture and her dreams for the future. We are proud to have been part of making those a reality.
